Woodworm
What is Woodworm?
Woodworm refers to the infestation of timber by wood-boring beetles, a problem often seen in older structures. These beetles lay eggs in the wood, and their larvae consume the timber, weakening it over time. This continuous feeding can lead to significant damage, endangering the building's structural integrity.
The most prevalent types of woodworm include the death-watch beetle, house longhorn beetle, and furniture beetle. Each species affects the wood in unique ways, but all can cause considerable damage if not properly addressed.
Possible Solutions
For every building, we conduct a comprehensive inspection to assess the severity of the issue and develop the most effective solution. In some cases, removing the affected timber entirely may be the best approach before addressing the remaining parts of the structure. Additionally, the treatment strategy will vary based on the extent of the damage, the type of infestation, and the building's age.
When the structural integrity of timber is compromised, timber resin repairs offer an effective solution. This method involves removing and replacing only the decayed sections, rather than replacing the entire timber component, such as a pillar. Timber resin repairs are both cost-effective and highly efficient for addressing issues like dry rot and woodworm.
After our inspection of the property, we will provide a details explanation as to how the woodworm infestation has occurred, the best solution and the best counter measure moving forward.
